Sauti provides trade and market information services that empower cross-border traders East Africa’s MSMEs with the business information they need to trade legally, profitably, and safely across borders. Our flagship service is our Trade and Market information Platform which we have deployed on the Kenya/Uganda border. We use a text menu-based communications technology called USSD to deliver trade and market information through any kind of phone (feature and smart) – enhancing access to information for all cross-border traders. Our trade and information platform also syncs information provided by our partners to provide traders with the most up-to-date and official information available, including clearing procedures, taxes, cross-border commodity prices & exchange rates, with coverage extending to 77 markets in 6 East African countries. By addressing information asymmetry, our service enables MSMEs to challenge exploitation by middlemen & border agents.
Sauti’s unique experience implementing information systems at borders extends also to our survey and mapping capacities. Our data collection methods across East Africa’s cross-border spaces allow us to present key attributes of SME border trader’s business and border crossing behaviour, giving us superior data-driven insights, enhancing cross-border trade policy advocacy and impact reporting.
