Zambia’s economy depends on the mining sector, while diversifying in the Agricultural sector, the country’s major agro producers, both medium and small scale farmers still wrestle with water problems. The use of fuel pumps and solar pumps to pump water for irrigation and livestock farming has proven to be a big challenge for farmers as a result of high acquisition cost, maintenance cost, operating cost and reduced solar pump efficiency when there is not enough sunlight.
A wind powered Water pump (wind turbine) for irrigation and livestock farming, is a very efficient, economical, ecological, and local solution, that could benefit Zambians!
Efficient : tests and studies show (INSERT FOOTNOTE REFERENCE HERE http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/119791468178164180/pdf/multi-page.pdf) wind is the cheapest source for water irrigation compared to solar and diesel/petrol when the wind speend is above 5m/s2.
