Malnutrition affects millions of Ugandans but it is particularly devastating to women, babies, and children. 45% of child deaths in Uganda is attributed to malnutrition. (Source: Uganda Demographic health survey 2011 and 2016). Yellow Star leverages on adding value to cereals & grains processing them into nutritious flour products and last-mile distribution of these products to champion access to nutrition for babies, children and women. We use a network of youth sales agents (70% women) who distribute our healthy nutritious products through door-to door channels particularly in low income communities creating job opportunities for them while addressing the malnutrition problem by household target approach. Our solution embraces the use of pre-cooked instant ready-to-eat nutrient rich balanced products requiring minimal preparation and saving 50% of charcoal & firewood used.
