Nigeria generates over 30 million ton of waste annually with only about 20 % collected with a recycling rate of only 2%. The COVID 19 pandemic has brought about a change in Waste generation sources which are now majorly homes, with people being encouraged to work from home, also with schools being closed. A common complaint about recycling has been the unavailability of the recycling facility and in available cases, the distance becomes a huge barrier. Trash Monger is setting up non-contact collection systems within residential estates and communities by establishing recycling drop off centres within such communities and estates. The drop-off centres are recycling cages made of wire mesh and fitted a sensor to indicate when a cage is filled up, this triggers a pickup request, and the cages are going to be designed to be attractive to children.
