SharkSafe Barrier Pty Ltd is a South African start-up built on the knowledge and cooperation of shark specialists, coastal engineers and business experts. SSB Pty Ltd will source and install a custom-made SharkSafe Barriers for each area in need of a long term solution from shark attacks.
Since 1937, shark-culling has been used to reduce shark attacks in Australia, South Africa (1950) and Reunion Island (2011). Unprovoked shark attacks lead to the loss of human lives and local tourism revenue. Shark-nets and drumlines are not effective to prevent all accidents and is destabilizing the ocean ecosystem. The SharkSafe Barrier (SSB) is the first nature-inspired, eco-friendly, shark specific and tested technology that separates large sharks from the areas used by surfers and swimmers. By using bio-mimicry of a kelp forest, and equally spaced magnetic fields, the technology prevents trauma associated with shark accidents, promotes local tourism and doesn’t kill marine life.
