About 90% of peasant farmers in Ghana finds it very difficult to deal with agricultural waste on their farms. They either burn it, which releases a lot of carbon dioxide into the environment hence causing air pollution and adding to the depleting of the ozone layer, or allowed to rot to release methane gas into the atmosphere causing serious environmental risk.
Realizing these deficiencies in the agricultural landscape, we decided to find means by which we can collect these waste, and turn them into a very useful by product hence the production of mushrooms. We process these waste to produce mushrooms and various healthy mushroom products.
Through this innovation, we have been able to create 20 direct jobs and over 150 indirect jobs. We currently have these product lines: mushroom fruiting bags, fresh and dried oyster mushrooms, mushroom flour, mushroom cookies and mushroom teas. These products are made based on consumer preferences.
