Oorja is a farming-as-a-service (FaaS) company that operates at the intersection between sustainable agriculture and renewable energy. It finances, installs and maintains solar energy systems for agricultural use. Oorja sells affordable and reliable irrigation, milling and cooling services to farmers so they can transition from diesel to solar. We have an inclusive and innovative business model to serve marginal farmers on a pay-per-use basis without any upfront technology acquisition cost. Oorja is founded and led by Amit Saraogi, who brings 25 years of experience in finance, consulting and international development, and Dr Clementine Chambon, who has technical expertise in cost-effective design of distributed energy systems. They lead a team of 18 people in India and have so far implemented 24 solar projects reaching close to 2,000 beneficiaries and saving 30 tons of CO2.
