16 mothers die everyday in Uganda due to complications related to pregnancy. Of these 16, 7 die due to complications that can be detected early using Ultrasound and managed. Unfortunately many pregnant women, especially in the rural areas cannot access affordable Ultrasound services. This is because conventional Ultrasound machines are too bulky, expensive and energy intensive to be used in most rural areas in Uganda and globally. At MSCAN, we are developers of low cost, portable, energy efficient mobile Ultrasound devices that connect to a phone, laptop or tablet and enable health workers to provide affordable Ultrasound services. This helps to fight maternal mortality through early detection of risk factors on Ultrasound.
