Lima Compost We prevent more than 25 tn of organic waste from getting into the trash.

A household generates more than 2 kg of organic waste a day. When they arrive in the trash, their decomposition generates GHG (greenhouse gases), the main causes of Climate Change. In one and a half months a household will contaminate with the same amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated by the consumption of 6 thousand gallons of gasoline. CO2 is the main greenhouse gas. The solution is composting! A process of natural transformation of organic waste that results in a nutrient-rich fertilizer: “compost”. More than 680 households are registered in our collection service. Thus, every month we avoid that more than 25 tn of organic waste reaches the garbage, they are transformed in compost, and we avoid the generation of at least 38 tn of CO2. 50% of the compost is donated to community gardens in Villa El Salvador and Puente Piedra. The compost recovers arid soils and reduces the use of fertilizers and pesticides, improving the health of the beneficiary families.
