ICBio started as an association for the welfare of the environment and turned into a commercial initiative in 2016 when we came across the idea of producing revenue-generating products while preserving the environment. This startup produces biodegradable packaging to replace plastic bags and did not start making sales until 2018 when the Government banned the import of plastic bags only 2 years after our initiative has been launched. We are the pioneers of this particular product, have all the markets across Bujumbura town, and 3 more provinces (food stores, pharmacies, supermarkets etc) and are planning to reach out to all provinces and cover the entire country by the end of 2021 if supported. Our vision is to see Burundi, a plastic-free environment. Based on the quality of our products, enterprises in need of our bags in the country and overseas have shown interests and are now taking orders.
