The strawberry market experienced strong expansion from 2007 to 2016 and reached $ 15.9 billion in 2016. In the world 9.2 tonnes of strawberries are produced per year (IndexBex report). China and the United States are the first strawberry producing countries. Only 5 countries produce strawberries in Africa. These are Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Burkina, Senegal with around 700,000 tonnes, part of production is exported to Europe, which is insignificant to satisfy demand for strawberries from Africa. Most African farmers do not engage in this crop because of lack of knowledge and control of the market and opportunities. To solve these problems, we created the start-up FRAISEN in 2016, which then launched on April 20, 2019, the first pan-African network of strawberry producers, a network which aims to develop the strawberry sector, to enhance the “made in Africa” and promote processed strawberry products in Africa.
