Each major city in Nigeria generates 10, 000 tons of wastes daily, majority of this trash has a potential reusable value but less than 3% of these wastes are recovered/recycled. Huge uncollected wastes continue to pose great environmental challenges as they are burnt in local communities, which generates greenhouse gas emissions.
Yet, more than 80 million people in the country struggle to live on $1 daily, which is not enough to meet their most basic needs.
eTrash2Cash is a social enterprise that establishes Trash Banks [local wastes collection points] to help low-income people earn/save cash incentives from their “trash”, which they can use to pay for other basic needs.
All wastes collected are then directly reprocessed or recycled into reusable raw materials and finished products, thus, prevented from being burnt, or getting into landfills and water bodies.
