Back2Origin Bringing spirulina, the world’s most ancient superfood, back to origin

Back2Origin is the first in the world to grow spirulina, a nutrient-rich superfood, in its natural environment in Kenya. Spirulina, an ancient cyanobacterium, thrives in the Rift Valley’s soda lakes. It naturally consumes CO₂ and sunlight, producing food through photosynthesis while extracting minerals from the water.

The global spirulina market is valued at $500 million. Current production is mostly in China and the USA on commercial farms. Our farm will be adjacent to where spirulina naturally occurs. We expect our feed cost to reduce ~70% using nutrient rich lake water, enabling a healthy 50% gross margin.

Back2Origin also has social impact benefits, such as: (1) Biodiversity: Flamingos feed on it, (2) Employment: Spirulina is labor intensive and local workers will run the farms, (3) Food security: High in protein and rich in antioxidants, it will improve nutrition for local Maasai communities and schools, (4) Climate change: it naturally sequesters carbon.
