The Utatlán Producers Youth Alliance is a startup that has been living for just under 2 years and works with a network of 40 seed families in the region. Knowing the opportunities that the School Feeding Law offers for rural economic reactivation, we proposed to demonstrate that another form of local development is possible, where participants have the potential to grow and develop. However, corruption practices have limited a free and competitive participation. Then the quality and nutritional value of food is not relevant to schools. Insisting on fair prices, on the quality and nutrition of products, is one of the aspects in which the Youth Alliance has insisted. Local farmers would have more options to obtain a safe and fair-priced market, children would be fed fresh and healthy products, the community economy would be reactivated and the generation of youth jobs.
