Ag-Straight have realized a gap in maize and cereals value chains, this includes knowledge to maximize productivity in both growing and post harvest handling as well as producing safe food for consumers in the region. It has been realized that many people are worried about the safety of food they are eating more especially maize flour where there is no quality bland on market specifically on Aflatoxin which is a dangerous toxin for human health. Aflatoxin contamination in human food causes a lot of health problems and therefore, we need to find a sustainable solution. Maize is one of the staple food in Rwanda and the entire region. However, given the capacity of local farmers, available knowledge and infrastructure for post harvest handling, the products of maize on market available locally in the region, are highly contaminated with aflatoxins and other toxins that negatively affects human health including stunting in infants as well as resulting in non transmissible diseases.
