Royal Dutch Shell was founded in 1907, although our history dates back to the early 19th century, to a small London company of the Samuel family selling seashells.

At present, Shell is one of the world’s leading energy companies, with approximately 93,000 employees, and operates in more than 70 countries. Our headquarters is in The Hague (Netherlands), and our Executive Director is Ben van Beurden. The parent company of the Shell group is Royal Dutch Shell plc, incorporated in England and Wales.

Our strategy is to strengthen our position as a leader in the oil and gas sector, while meeting the growing global energy demand in a responsible manner. Security, respect for the environment and social responsibility are at the core of all our activities.

$122 million dedicated to voluntary social investment, of which:

• About $93 million dedicated to local programs for community development, natural disaster relief, education, health and biodiversity.
• About $29 million dedicated to our three global strategic issues: business development, road safety and access to energy.

In countries with lower incomes, 75% of Shell’s business expenses went to the purchase of goods and services from local businesses.
