IICA - Agriculture: a priority for sustainable development in the Americas

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) is the specialized agricultural agency of the Inter-American System that supports the efforts of its 34 Member States to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being.

Since 1942, IICA has provided international technical cooperation of excellence, responding in a timely manner to the new challenges and opportunities facing the agricultural sector, with a view to achieving an increasingly inclusive, competitive and sustainable agriculture.

Agriculture in the Americas has the potential to become a true engine of development, capable of generating economic growth and prosperity for the populations of the region. Unleashing the potential of the agricultural sector is crucial to solving one of the greatest challenges facing humanity: achieving food security.
