From a linear, fossil-based economy to a circular, inclusive and regenerative economy

Our current economic system does not meet the growing need to improve our society ecologically and socially. It is too much focused on financial growth and maximising profit in the short term. It is a linear economy: production processes are not taken into account and no thought is given to the long-term effects, with far-reaching negative social and ecological consequences.

A NEW & CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The problems arising from this can be tackled only if a different economic system is considered. DOEN sees opportunities to contribute to this necessary change. After all, the world is changing rapidly and the outlines of a new economy are becoming increasingly clear. This new economy is circular and regenerative. We also take into account the Earth’s capacity for renewal, and the basic needs of everyone who feels lonely or isolated, or is in socio-economic difficulties or out of work.

SUPPORT FROM DOEN FOUNDATION

DOEN is looking for sustainable, social entrepreneurs with innovative products or services that will contribute to the creation of this new circular economy. We are looking for people who dare to take risks and seize new opportunities. People who come up with new solutions or business models. Inspiring pioneers, who are an example for others: for other entrepreneurs and organisations or even for the government; and who show that the new, circular economy can be put into practice. DOEN can provide direct support in the form of grants, loans, guarantees or investments.

DOEN LOOKS AT THE FOLLOWING ASPECT FOR THE SELECTION

A) Origin and use of materials, e.g. in the clothing industry;
B) Re-use of materials, e.g. by using waste for 3D printing;
C) Sustainable ecological (landscape) restoration
