    WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CALL?

      The “COVID-19: New Opportunities for Sustainable Cities” Competition seeks to stimulate, the configuration of more balanced urban scenarios from greater access to opportunities that encourages social inclusion and productivity of our cities.

      Specifically, the call aims to encourage the participation of the different actors of civil society to identify, analyze, conceptualize and project those ideas that allow to transition to more sustainable and resilient cities, in response to the health crisis resulting from the pandemic

      WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

      The call extends to university students, professionals, non-profit organizations, members of civil society, community associations and, in general, all people They are interested in urban development and are willing to share their ideas to help improve the post-pandemic situation in cities in the region. Ideas can be presented individually or in group, in Spanish, Portuguese or English, and have the potential to implement in CAF member countries.

      The and the applicants must be over 18 years of age, of any nationality. In cases of groups of people, a representative must be designated as “Responsible for the idea”.

      IS MY IDEA INDICATED?

      We are looking for ideas in the incubation state that describe creative and innovative interventions, in
      provide solutions to the different challenges that have been imposed on cities in the period of the
      -pandemic transition.

      The proposed solutions must consider comprehensively
      elements related to at least one of the following urban dimensions:

      • Public spaces
      • Collective use spaces
      • Informal settlement
      • Non-motorized mobility
      • Public transport

      It is expected to receive germinated ideas as a response or consequence of the pandemic, but thought
      beyond the current juncture, even to address problems that existed prior to the arrival of the
      COVID-19. The present crisis is, in essence, an opportunity for the future. In this sense, it is desirable
      that ideas have at least one of the following distinguishing features:

      • Resilients:have developed a capacity to adapt to different scenarios of economic reactivation and dynamization of urban life, in its different stages and phases.
      • Inclusive:promote social participation and inclusion in the context of physical distancing, with a gender-based approach and vulnerable populations, and which aim at reducing inequality and social segregation. They also include strategies for multi-actor cooperation and the strengthening of urban governance.
      • Environmentally sustainable:tacitly and transversely integrate environmental sustainability criteria into scenarios such as carbon footprint reduction, urban waste management, mitigation, mitigation, and risk adaptation in areas of vulnerability and in a global climate change context.
      • Productive:represent opportunities for the optimization of economic, social, and environmental resources in the generation of people’s well-being and quality of life. This includes the reduction of operating costs, the strengthening of local productivity networks, access to employment, and the generation of opportunities with economic value from a territorial perspective.
      • To guide the conceptualization of ideas, the presentation form of the proposal will answer a series of guiding questions that will allow to describe:
        1. The desired model of space (public space, informal settlement, etc.) or dynamics (transport system, food distribution chain, etc.) to intervene.
        2. The effects of COVID-19 on that model.
        3. The contribution of the idea to the mitigation of these effects.
        4. The contribution of the idea to strengthening the attributes of the model.
        5. The resources required to implement the idea

      • Announcement of results: 2 weeks after closure
