Call for Applications: WFF Youth Focal Points Group

sustainable transformation of agri-food systems

Are you aged between 18 -35 and looking for a way to get your voice heard in food and agriculture while taking your career to the next level by volunteering at the World Food Forum (WFF) Youth Action Track Focal Points Group (FPG),

The aim of this group is to draft youth policy positions on food and agriculture topics and coordinate regional activities, providing strategic direction for upcoming key events and the Youth Action Assembly during the WFF flagship event held in October of each year at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

The 2022 flagship event provided youth leaders with the opportunity to share key priorities of youth with policy-makers to ensure greater access to safe and nutritious food. Some of the key messages were greater funding, equitable representation of people from different parts of the globe in deliberations and capacity building.

“As a young person that grew up in a farming community, it was impossible to live in denial of the climate realities, and how the efforts to feed the rapidly growing population currently impairs the quality and values of our environment. As such, I am daily reminded of how much I have to care about
what the future of food should look like in a changing climate world.

Unfortunately, previous efforts towards food systems transformation were largely exclusionary, without a seat for young people at the table, or a clear-cut platform for meaningful youth engagement and opportunity to co-create our future, but the World Food Forum is changing this narrative. The World Food Forum is creating a much-needed platform for us to be heard, both in policy and practice. This is what the Focal Points Group is all about – a platform to co-create the future of food’’. Opeyemi Elujulo – Co-Chair, Focal Points Group.
