UZURI K&Y is an innovative eco-friendly footwear company founded in 2013 by Ysolde Shimwe and Kevine Kagirimpundu, who are university friends sharing a passion for sustainable solutions. Operating in Rwanda, UZURI K&Y addresses two critical issues: environmental pollution and unemployment. By leveraging the 4R technology of repurposing, recycling, recovering, and reducing, we transform discarded car tires into stylish and functional shoes. Our mission extends beyond environmental sustainability – we are committed to empowering African youth and women. Through our employment initiatives and skill development programs, such as the Hatua shoemaking program, we provide practical shoemaking training and valuable soft skills to equip individuals for success in the industry and foster entrepreneurship. By offering affordable and eco-friendly footwear globally, we strive to make a positive impact on both our community and the planet.
