We recover 12,000 tons of waste and use the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae’s Superman-like ability to transform organic waste into high quality protein to produce animal feed and sequester ~4 tons of CO2. Our unique waste mix formula accelerates the growth cycle of BSF larvae by 28%, which is used in poultry, fish and pig production. Protein in animal feeds accounts for ~60% of the cost in total production cost. Insect-protein can reduce this by at least 25%, in turn increasing farmers’ incomes and bolstering food security. It is thus not surprising that 90% of farmers and 85% of feed producers in Kenya are ready to use insect-based feed. However, the current annual supply of BSF larvae is ~3600 tons while demand is at 90000 tons. The Insectary’s production capacity of 360 tons is expected to grow 10 times in the next 5 years due to our access to large sources of waste streams from our sister company and our proficiency in BSF egg production, the toughest part of BSF farming.
