Tenere International Ltd is leading the transformation of Kenya’s tuna fishing industry by developing a state-of-the-art tuna processing facility within the Lamu Islands Special Economic Zone (SEZ) supported by elleven fishing vessels. The project is focused on sustainability, use of modern innovative fishing gear, and application of sustainable fishing practices. This investments will allow Tenere to create high-quality, value-added tuna products while adhering to international environmental standards and enhancing the livelihoods of local communities. Tenere seeks to raise USD 246 million through a mix of equity, debt, and grants to establish the facility, acquire fishing assets, and invest in R&D. With a payback period of 5 years and a projected Net Present Value (NPV) of USD 40 million before adjustments for SEZ tax advantages, the project promises to deliver significant financial returns while aligning with global sustainability goals.
