Nigeria, the eighth most populous country in the world and the First in Africa with over 200 million populations, accounts for 20% of all global maternal deaths with a daunting maternal mortality ratio of 814 deaths per 100,000 live births due to complications arising from Postpartum Hemorrhage and other related pregnancy challenges (World Health Organization, n.d). Therefore, providing quality sexual and reproductive health services, supply of essential drugs, equipment, and adequate training for Health workers will prevent excess maternal deaths from obstetrics complication.
In Hawul LGA of Borno state where SMaNCH is operating, about 70% of pregnant women faces issues in accessing reproductive health services, where women have to walk up to 9km in order to access such services, leading to unwanted pregnancies, complications due to unsafe abortion, and without timely intervention, it results to maternal deaths
