1. Bees are declining due to climate change, toxic pesticides, diseases and habitat loss. In Indonesia bee keeping is still considered ‘second class farming’ and therefor still small. In fact the majority of honey produced in Indonesia is not farmed but wild forest honey which is in decline due to deforestation & bad farming practices that destroys the ecosystem.
2. The declining number of bees and nectar source due to deforestation, pesticides etc have also triggered another problem: HONEY ADULTERATION. The population of Indonesia in 2021 is estimated to be 276 million with an average age of 29.7 years old and is predicted that this will grow to 311 million. This will create a problem in that food consumption is growing faster than the rate of production. With the population increase, pandemic problem, the rising awareness of healthy lifestyle have caused higher demands of honey which we need to build the ecosystem starting NOW!
