6 million tons is the number of wastes produced annually in Cameroon; among these 6 million, about 10% or 600,000 tons representing plastic waste are produced. This plastic waste, generally of PET type, is very often found in the gutters, our rivers and drains. These prevent the natural circulation of water and cause unprecedented floods in heavy rainy weather and also environmental pollution: water, air, fauna and flora. In August 2020, Douala experienced heavy flooding after heavy rains in the city, causing extensive property damage. One of the causes was poor drainage, with drains clogged with plastic waste.
PAVECO is a project oriented to the recycling of more than 5,000 tons of plastic waste within 3 years into paving stones (ECOPAVE) for urbanization; an app (ECOTECH) of collection and environmental protection awareness has also been designed as well as plastic recycling machines. We are seeking to reduce insalubrity and building roads and pedestrian walkways in our cities.
