Mozambican markets are full of thrift store clothes. However, half of these clothes are not in good condition, and these clothes are unproperly discarded, and when they rain, they are swept away into the sea. The microplastics in these discarded clothes end up contaminating the waters that support local fishing, putting marine health, and, consequently, food security at risk. Modéstia presents an innovative solution to this problem, recycling discarded clothes and reusing their fabrics to manufacture new modest and exclusive garments through upcycling. With this approach, we reduce the amount of clothing that reaches the seas, and we ensure the quality of the food that reaches the tables’ families.
This is very important to me, because I believe that the brand can be an agent of change in Mozambique, promoting environmental awareness and offering a more sustainable alternative to the fashion industry.
