The market study of a sample of 300 public and private institutions carried out in 2018 revealed an annual demand in cartridges of almost 3.5 billion CFA francs, which corresponds to about 500 thousand cartridges or 656 tonnes of plastic and chemical waste dumped into the environment in Benin. The plastic used in a typical cartridge is made of a category of treated polymers and can take 450 years to decompose.
