LocalHands solves the information asymmetry crisis in Cameroon’s informal economy, where 90% of skilled workers have no digital record of their professional integrity. Clients spend 6-10 days finding reliable providers through social media posts and physical posters, while skilled artisans remain invisible beyond their immediate community. Our platform provides verified provider profiles, escrow-protected Mobile Money payments via Fapshi integration, real-time messaging, contract formation, and a transparent review system replacing dangerous word-of-mouth with a trusted digital marketplace. Built on a NestJS/PostgreSQL architecture with a React/Vite mobile-first frontend, LocalHands operates in low-bandwidth environments on budget smartphones. Our survey of 381 users confirmed 92% of providers had no way to collect public reviews, and 85% preferred Mobile Money, which global platforms like Upwork don’t support.
