LEMON MPCS registered in 2019 to curb emerging food crisis and economic woes with the number of poor people falling into poverty estimated to increase by 10 million among which are mostly women and 40% children who will become chronically malnourished. The idea is based on past experience/training from a German MFI and Cuso International. These insights exposed the gaps that needed to be filled.
An estimated 85 million people are engaged in poultry farming producing 280 million birds annually which only accounts for 30% of the demand for chicken eggs and meat combined. Women make up 60% of the rural poultry farmers and are faced with low productivity due to lack of access to finance and flexible risk guarantee.
LEMON provides sustainable agricultural practices and impact financing investments designed to target communities with affordable micro-credit, insurance, financial literacy, flexible risk guarantee and business development services.
