Most Livestock farmers in the cattle corridor are largely affected by drought. This is generally a result of climate change, range lands get dried up with little or no grass for the animals to feed on. Some farmers in areas like Nakasongola and Kyankwaza register animal deaths as a result of underfeeding every dry season.
However, we also have identified that maize and rice are some of the largely grown conventional crops in most of these areas. After harvest, the stovers/stalks (residues) are either gathered and burnt in the garden thus contributing to climate change, or left to rot in the garden.
We collect the residues from farmers normally at no cost and sometimes at a small cost and turn them into nutritious dry seasonal feed(Haylage) which we later sell to livestock farmers in the affected areas to feed to their animals during the season. Through our innovation, we promote circularity and as well as provide an alternative feed for farmers during the dry season.
