We use climate-smart agriculture practices in food production. We grow and sell white button mushrooms. Our venture combines biotechnology with agriculture to create a climate – resilient system. Mushrooms are grown in grow houses made of mud or brick whose internal temperature and humidity can be controlled. They can be grown all year round as long as room is available.
Mushrooms are grown on readily available raw material such as wheat straw and sugarcane bagasse. Mushrooms are a better source of protein compared to others and their production is environmentally friendly. Their market is mostly in the cities. We therefore plan to carry sensitization and awareness of their benefits so as to capture the rural market. We have been able to employ ourselves and we are in line with SDGs in poverty reduction, ending hunger, and promoting gender equality though women leadership in our venture. We have potential to scale our business and have greater impact.
