One night, while attending the emergency department as a medical student, a 65-year-old patient came in with stomach pain. The doctor evaluated him and decided to send him home, believing it was just typical stomach pain. Unfortunately, the next day, the patient passed away due to a fact not widely covered in textbooks: in about 10% of older individuals, stomach pain can be a sign of a heart attack.

I’m not assigning blame, but it made me wonder: if the doctor or the physician had encountered a similar case before, could this have been prevented?
