In Ghana, cashew production currently stands at 140,000 metric tons per annum and this is expected to increase. Due to lack of agrowaste innovations, once the nuts are extracted; the cashew apples which makes up 85% of the entire fruit are left to rot on farms and landfill sites, ignoring the adverse effects it has on the environment and climate.
However, in this same country; sixty (60) million litres of industrial alcohols and it’s subsistuents is imported annually by pharmaceutical, alcoholic beverages, cosmetics, oil and gas industries, giving its uncompromising nature as an active ingredients used in their production.
Project AGRONOL seeks to promote a circular economy by employing robust recycle systems to convert and synthesize Industrial alcohols such as ethanol from these cashew apples. It is an innovative technology to change the narrative by reducing Ghana’s overreliance on imported industrial alcohols and the menace of Agro-waste during bumper seasons
