Africa Strong Boat Inland waterway transport solutions

Most countries in Africa are experiencing rapid population growth, combined with climate change and poor infrastructure in many countries, safe and reliable transportation is an issue. Many African countries have thousands of km of navigatable rivers, but the boats and barges used for carrying goods and people are often in a very poor state and unsafe. Africa Strong Boat (ASB) has together with our partner designed and developed new types of environmentally friendly, maintenance-free and almost indestructible modular barges made with recyclable HDPE (High-Density Poly Ethylene) recycled plaswood and steel. HDPE is a material with very high buoyancy properties allowing barges to carry heavy loads with little draft meaning they can reach places with very shallow water. These barges range from the mini barge that can load 10MT to the Maxi barge that can load 450MT. ASB’s mission is to significantly improve much-underutilized river transport in Africa.
