3DIY Uganda Accelerating Health care Innovations through local production

Many front-line health workers, market vendors, schools, refugee settlements and general public are at risk for COVID-19 exposure. The risk can be reduced by use of Personal Protective Equipment especially masks and visors. However, supply of these items is very limited in East Africa, hence there is an urgent need to empower the community and Frontline Healthcare Workers to have access to or locally assemble PPEs. We locally manufacture face shields using locally available materials (PETG, PET or PVC visor, form head band, and woven elastic) and 3D printers. We train health care workers on how to locally assemble face shields and 3D printers. There is also lack of knowledge and access to Do-it-yourself techniques and equipment like 3D printer. We have a digital manufacturing Hub with 3D printing materials including free 3D models, online PPE delivery and a digital collection center for waste face shields. Our aim is to empower heath care workers to locally assemble and 3D print PPEs.
