Universidad Mayor, Real and Pontistia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca

The Universidad Mayor, Real and Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca is a Bolivian public university. Based in Sucre, capital of Bolivia, it is the oldest university in this country and the second that continues in Latin America. It was founded on March 27, 1624, with the title of Royal and Pontifical University of San Francisco Xavier through the Papal Bula issued by Gregory XV on July 9, 1621 and the Royal Document issued by King Philip IV on February 2, 1622.

It is currently one of the most internationally renowned Bolivian universities, in whose classrooms it houses students from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru among others. It is one of the most important and prestigious universities in the country in terms of impact, excellence and openness, highlighting its work in scientific research and its interaction and social extension. It has a good number of relationships and agreements with Universities of America and Europe.

According to the Universities Web Ranking, Webometrics 2021, it is considered the sixth best university of Bolivia.1. It would be the fourth best public university in the country and the best university in Chuquisaca and therefore the city of Sucre.
