KIEP 250+

Grant funding and technical assistance to upgrade 250+ SMEs

KIEP 250+ aims to increase productivity, innovation and enhance market linkages within established Kenyan SMEs. This will be through grant funding to select firms to improve their managerial and technical skills, and their access to and use of technology.  The first Call for Applications (CFA) officially launched on the 20th November and will close on 18th December 2020.

SME Eligibility

The following are the eligibility criteria for the SMEs:

  1. Be nominated to the project by a lead firm, financial institutions or other 3rd parties (e.g. business association)
  2. Must have an annual turnover of between KES 50 million and 1 billion (this can be of the previous financial year or an average annual turnover of previous 3 years)
  3. Be duly registered in Kenya
  4. Be at least 2 years old
  5. Should not be insolvent
  6. Must have audited accounts
  7. Must be tax compliant
  8. Management must be committed to participating in the program

Note:
Priority will be given to SMEs in the Big 4 sectors (manufacturing, food security, healthcare and affordable housing), plus possibly supporting demand creation through ICT, hospitality and education sectors.

Woman/women-owned and/or led businesses are encouraged to apply.


About KIEP 250 +

KIEP is a US$50 million initiative that is implemented by the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development (MoITED) between 2020-2024, with support from the World Bank. The initiative consists of different components.

We refer to Component 2 of the project as KIEP 250+. The name symbolizes the 250 companies that will benefit from business improvement, technical assistance and market linkage services that KIEP provides to fast-growing (eligible) SMEs.

KIEP 250+ is managed by a consortium of international consulting firms led by NIRAS as the Fund Manager and implementing party supported by Intellecap.
