About the hackathon
Hualiz Mexico, in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology of Jalisco, and the Municipal Government of Ocotlán present the Hackathon InnovaWaste, one of the components of the Hacking Hub initiative, which consists of a virtual event to catalyze innovation, detonate collaborations and linkages that provide solutions to social and environmental problems of the municipality.
Bases
Objective
Design and develop innovative projects focused on facilitating the management of waste inorganic, solid from the municipality of Ocotlán for its use, ensuring a positive impact on the environment and the prioritization of the health of the citizens.
Context:
- The Ocotlán Municipal Government is collecting up to 120 tons of garbage per day, both in the municipal capital and in the 17 rural localities of the municipality.
- This great effort is made possible by the effort of the Public Asean Headquarters, made up of 83 workers who are coordinating daily on 19 traditional collection routes to achieve the city’s greatest cleanup.
- Ocotlán has a service of descent, which consists of the special collection of tires and cacharros or atypical residues that can store water, to prevent the reproduction of the mosquito of dengue and other diseases or outbreaks of infection.
- In the municipality of Ocotlán, the collection of garbage generated in a house-room due to the activities of the household is collected by 22 trucks dedicated to 15 housing routes, of which 13 are focused on the urban area; 9 are of containers and 2 routes are dedicated to the rural area.
- There are 4 routes to collect garbage deposited in all 50 containers. Each container has a capacity of two cubic meters, equivalent to approximately 400 kilograms, which are collected in an average of 20 minutes each.
- Ocotlán has a program called “Cleta la Carreta” with which weekly collection of recyclable materials is collected at home and according to their weight they accumulate points that can be exchanged for different articles.

Directed people living in any part of Mexico and Latin America, who wish to work in multidisciplinary teams to solve the social and environmental challenges facing the municipality of Ocotlan, Jalisco.
