Learn from agripreneurs transforming Africa’s agri sector

#GrowEntrepreneurs #TransformFood

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance vibrancy on the GoGettaz Community platform, Generation Africa will have a bi-monthly webinar series that will address different topics in the food value with specific focus on youth agripreneurs.

The first webinar series will be on the role of the youth in transforming food systems in Africa and focus will be on youth agripreneurship, existing challenges & solutions in the value chain and existing opportunities for agripreneurs.

  • The 2022 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize finalists Esther Kimani and Mochesane Albert Mpali will be present to share insights of their innovations, how they are solving today’s food system challenges and experiences in the coveted GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition.
  • We will also introduce the Generation Africa team to participants in the webinar, share more insights of some of their interventions in supporting youth agripreneurship and the benefits of being a member of the GoGettaz online community platform.

Specifically, the webinar will aim to:

  1. Provide a neutral platform to profile young agripreneurs, facilitate linkages between stakeholders and promote sharing and learning on successful models of supporting youth in agribusiness.
  2. Provide a platform for young agri-preneurs to showcase their innovations and businesses to attract financing, market, and business development support services.
  3. Provide a platform for investors, development partners and governments interested in working with youth-led agribusinesses to connect.
  4. Introduce Generation Africa and GoGettaz online Community to participants in the webinar

Participants in the webinar will include key stakeholders from private and public sector, development agencies, governments, producer organizations, civil society, academia, and research institutions who are working with the youth.

Generation Africa is a pan-African youth initiative founded in 2019 to support young ‘agripreneurs’ who are transforming Africa’s food system. One of its key interventions is through the annual GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize competition that awards $100k to top agripreneurs who emerge successful after a vigorous selection process and pitching of their agribusinesses to an expert panel of judges. In 2022, Esther Kimani (Kenya), Founder FarmerLifeLine Technologies and Mark Musinguzi (Uganda), Founder HyaBioplastics each received a grand prize of US$ 50,000 for their innovations that included a pest and disease detection device that leverages on solar to detect pest and diseases; and use of biodegradable products to manufacture food packages respectively.

In order to continuously invigorate discussions with agripreneurs while supporting them, Generation Africa launched the GoGettaz Community Platform that aims to inspire the next generation of African agripreneurs and connect them to resources they need to move their businesses successfully from idea to scale. The platform is integrated into VC4A’s existing platform of entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors – leveraging opportunities, network and learning resources built up over the past decade.

Today, the GoGettaz online Community Platform has over 9,000 registered agri-professionals across the globe who are daily interacting and learning from each other. Some of the exciting things to look for in the platform include: Creating your venture profile for people to see you including investors; engage directly with other members and key stakeholders on the platform, get to know the latest investments opportunities, acceleration and incubation programs, competitions, and fellowship programs ideal for agripreneurs. In addition, get insights on what our current and Gogettaz alumni have been upto and solutions they are providing in the food system. The VC4A Startup Academy is also available on the platform and it is open to all founders of agri-enterprises at the different stages of growth who would like to grow their agribusinesses.
