WHY GLOBAL

The Hack the Crisis movement is already approx 45 events strong: http://garage48.org/hackthecrisis/ It was and still is a true community push to have an immediate response to the Covid-19 virus.

While the crisis is far from over, we’re already living in a world where the future is now and the fight is real. We need to battle problems caused by the immediate crisis while also looking two steps ahead. How can we deal with the changing relationships, a whole new economy, poor healthcare, supporting arts?

We need to come up with solutions that will help us fight future pandemics, and all crises for that matter, more effectively. So we never have to lockdown again. That’s why we’re putting on The Global Hack on 9-12 April. If we move fast enough, this global hack could become something that has a massive social and economical impact beyond our imagination.

THE STRUCTURE

The Global Hack has a global face, it is beyond any brand or organization – it is the global tech communities’ response to the crisis. We suggest this structure to make this global hack initiative happen:

1. The HQ (led by a team of 20+ volunteers based mostly in Estonia but also Dubai and UK at the moment). Leading social media outreach and international communication. Gathering public and private sector challenges. Gathering an international prize pool shared with all tracks.

2. Independent track organizers. Each of the 11 hackathon tracks has an independent organizer from the global movement. The track organizer follows the technical guidelines for the hackathon flow. Manages participants in a separate slack channel. Works together with an international mentor team to push the participants to submit great final results. Also, manages the evaluation of the ideas and makes sure top 3 is directed to the overall Global Hack finals. The HQ team and organizers team are in a shared channel to keep information flowing and to discuss all possible decisions together.

3. Community partners. All #hackthecrisis global movement organizers are part of this initiative. We ask you to share the message and you will be added to our web as well.
