FUNGUO

UNDP’s FUNGUO Innovation Programme is a multi-partner initiative designed to catalyse Tanzania’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, co-funded by the European Union, the British Government (FCDO), and the Government of Finland.

Initiated and implemented by UNDP Tanzania, FUNGUO works in collaboration with a range of key ecosystem partners including leading Enterprise Support Organizations and in close coordination with government agencies such as COSTECH and others.

FUNGUO’s mission is to increase the number of successfully scaled, impact-driven startups and innovative MSMEs, enabling them to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Tanzania.

Positioned in the “missing middle” of the startup ecosystem, FUNGUO plays a catalytic role by:

• Bridging critical funding gaps for scalable, impact-driven startups that often struggle to access appropriate forms of capital.
• Building a viable pipeline of investment-ready ventures for medium- to large-ticket funders and investors.
• Partnering strategically with ecosystem actors to strengthen Tanzania’s innovation support system and foster a more enabling environment.

Through this approach, FUNGUO not only provides catalytic funding but also strengthens the broader innovation ecosystem, ensuring that Tanzanian innovators can thrive, scale, and contribute meaningfully to inclusive and sustainable development.
