develoPPP Ventures
- develoPPP Ventures supports early growth-stage companies via a matching-funds model from DEG Impulse and GIZ with funds from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
- Together with local partners, VC4A focuses on identifying and supporting innovators across Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya that have the potential to generate a measurable, positive social or environmental impact alongside financial returns.
- VC4A handles the overall preparation, coordination, and monitoring through management of calls for proposals; pre-selection of startups, preparation of shortlist, organization of pitching events; due diligence of the selected ventures; and provision of technical assistance in collaboration with a range of experts.
SheWins Africa
- SheWins Africa is a comprehensive program designed to empower women entrepreneurs across Sub-Saharan Africa. The program provides investor readiness training, business skills capacity building, gender-lens investing training for funds, and facilitates matchmaking and pitching events. By equipping women entrepreneurs with the necessary tools and connections, SheWins Africa aims to accelerate the growth of women-led businesses in the region.
- VC4A is providing a cohort of 100 women-led startups from across Africa with investment readiness support as part of a tiered technical assistance program. This includes access to learning materials, virtual masterclasses, mentorship, peer learning, and for the growth stage founders a technical residency in Cape Town, South Africa.
- VC4A develops dealbooks and hosts dedicated dealrooms in connecting companies with prospective investment partners. Entrepreneurs also have the opportunity to pitch their business and spotlight their fundraising campaigns at the Africa Early Stage Investor Summit.
GSMA Innovation Fund
- The GSMA Ecosystem Accelerator Innovation Fund supports start-ups willing to work with mobile operators, is sector-agnostic and open to post-revenue start-ups using mobile to solve local challenges in Asia-Pacific and Africa.
- VC4A is supporting a selection of growth-stage companies of GSMA’s accelerator program with investment readiness support.
Work in Progress!
- The Work in Progress! project is an 8-year consortium dedicated to strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems in Nigeria, Egypt and Somalia. It forms part of LEAD (Local Employment in Africa for Development) funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- VC4A sourced ESO partners in each country and co-designed and managed country program implementation to set up accelerator programs in Nigeria, Egypt and Somalia.
- VC4A conducted in country bootcamps, facilitated the startup recruitment, assessment and selection of entrepreneurs for physical acceleration support as well as mentor training as part of the Mentor Driven Capital approach.
AEDIB | NET
- The AEDIB|NET is an African-European project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme and coordinated by GIZ in Germany.
- AEDIB|NET brings together a consortium of 13 strong partners from the African and European innovation ecosystem, initiated by EU member states and the European Commission.
- VC4A focused on identifying scale-ups in the AEDIB focus categories and presented them to the African early stage investment community during AESIS 2023.
Make-IT in Africa
- The Make-IT in Africa mission – implemented by GIZ – is to promote digital innovation for sustainable and inclusive development for entrepreneurs in early growth phase.
- VC4A offered its experience, data tools and lessons learned from its research work, venture directory, performance index, partner directory and network of local experts and partners to support Make-IT.
- VC4A has hosted the online application and selection process of the Make-IT Accelerator and is implementing a mentorship programme in Nigeria and Kenya focused on improving networks providing mentor driven capital to startups.
FMO Ventures
- FMO Ventures Program, an initiative of the Dutch Development Bank, aims to empower innovative business models applying disruptive technology to enable affordable access to goods and services to the un(der)served in emerging markets.
- In the first cycle, VC4A identified outstanding local ESOs per country: Impact Hub in Ghana, LaStartupStation in Morocco and Anza in Tanzania.
- VC4A worked with all three ESOs advising and supporting their acceleration programs, recruiting well-fitting startups and offering further benefits in terms of tools, services, reach, and visibility.
PES Latam
- PES Latam (2019-2023) aimed to support the broader ecosystem of organizations and individuals in the field of social entrepreneurship in Central and Latin America, funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
- For this, VC4A worked with other implementers (Ashoka, Bridge for Billions, New Ventures, and LeFil Consulting) to integrate an ambitious Latin America focused platform for this community to find peers, allies, mentors, investors, opportunities, training, and knowledge.
