dLab Tanzania

The Tanzania Data Lab (dLab), as a non-governmental organization has been formed in June 2018 as a progression of the three successful projects named; Tanzania Data Lab (dLab), Data Zetu and Data for Local Impact Innovation Challenge (DLIIC). The three projects were serving as anchors for the Data Collaborative for Local Impact (DCLI) program, enabling data analysis and use to become more prominent in decision making in Tanzania. These projects were funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) which is the U.S. Government initiative to help save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world, and these projects were implemented by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). Therefore, Tanzania Data Lab NGO was established strategically to sustain the work and impact of Data Collaboratives for Local Impact (DCLI) in Tanzania.

DCLI use an ecosystem and system approach to build data skills of government, civil society, and citizens and empowers them through data to drive development progress. DCLI is implemented through four projects in Tanzania: Tanzania Data Lab (dLab), which provides training and data science services; Data for Local Impact Innovation Challenge (DLIIC), an innovation challenge that enlists and supports entrepreneurs in designing data-based solutions; Data Zetu, a sub-national project that exposes local authorities and citizens to the benefits of data use; and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) data roadmap process in Tanzania.
