Breadline Africa

Every child has the capacity to do something phenomenal with their life

Established in 1993, Breadline Africa is a charity dedicated to helping poor and vulnerable people uplift themselves – breaking the cycle of poverty in Southern Africa. We believe that when a child’s imagination is unlocked, possibilities are opened, allowing them to choose a path for their own future. Breadline Africa enables this journey by providing infrastructure, primarily by converting shipping containers into early childhood development classrooms, libraries, kitchens and toilets.

To date, it has placed over 990 converted shipping containers and prefabricated units to resource-poor communities across the country and its impact extends to more than 245,000 children. Through various other initiatives during the year, such as a winter food parcel appeal and our Christmas feeding programs, we aim to uplift vulnerable communities.

COVID-19 has had a drastic effect on all our lives but has impacted the poor the most. Since the announcement of lockdown, Breadline Africa immediately focused our efforts toward emergency feeding programs in poor communities to alleviate hunger caused by the pandemic. We are currently supporting 26 projects to provide more than 20,000 meals a week.

Breadline Africa is registered as a non-profit organisation and based in Cape Town, South Africa. We are also registered as a charity in the UK, with offices in the United Kingdom and Ireland. We have a 100% BEEE beneficiary base and individual donors, as well as corporate donors, qualify for a Section 18 Tax exception when making donations to Breadline Africa.
