Anza in partnership with UNCDF, NMB, the European Union and the Dutch Embassy is excited to announce a call for applications for financial technology (fintech) startups to apply to join the Pesatech Accelerator Cohort 2 2024.


Pesatech Accelerator is the only fintech accelerator in Tanzania designed to bring together fintech entrepreneurs, mentors, coaches, investors and policymakers with a sole purpose of advancing the fintech ecosystem in Tanzania. In 2022/23, UNCDF together with startup ecosystem partners implemented Pesatech Accelerator Cohort 1 that was aimed at earlier stage fintech startups. 


The upcoming Pesatech Accelerator Cohort 2 has been designed to accelerate fintechs that are at a stage past Minimum Viable Product (MVP). In this accelerator, fintechs that will participate in cohorts are those with at least initial sales to customers.


This call for applications is for fintech startups with operations in Tanzania. Applicants need to meet a minimum of the following criteria to be accepted into Pesatech Accelerator Cohort 2.

  • Must be majorly owned by Tanzanian;

  • Must be post-revenue i.e already has made some sales to customers;

  • Addressing digitally any of the following challenges i.e. access to credit, savings, access to insurance (health, life, general), wealth management, investment, payment platforms (local and cross border), investment platform (retail or institutional), and alternative credit scores platform. Others include  e-commerce platforms (with plans to integrate any of the primary fintech solutions), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and regulatory technology (reg-tech);

  • Must have at least two team members and preferably with technical expertise in the product and industry;

  • Must have a plan to scale.


Fintechs that will be recruited into the accelerator  will have the following benefits;


  • Access to Anza’s local and international network of investors and mentors;

  • Access to NMB’s fintech sandbox to advance their product development efforts;

  • Performance Based Seed Fund;;

  • Access to world class business diagnostic tools emanating from global winning learning methodologies and communities.

About Anza

Anza is excited to launch their Investment Readiness Accelerator. The objectives of this accelerator program are to:

  • Support innovative ideas which are tackling the issues faced by the booming Tanzanian population.

  • Support businesses with life-improving products and services.
  • Improve the TZ investment ecosystem to lower gender, social and market-system barriers.

Anza Entrepreneurs provide business development services that assist to strengthen business operations, increase profitability, and scale job creation in Tanzania. In the last 10 years, Anza has provided over 1,000 businesses in 12 regions of Tanzania with strategic capacity building, trade linkages, and access to flexible capital to maximize their ability to create jobs and provide access to life-improving products and services.

​​Our impact is clear: On average Anza entrepreneurs create 3 new jobs, have revenue growth of $12,000 (TZS 28 million), and reach 12,000 lives all within the first year of programming. To date, we’ve facilitated over $4,500,000 (TZS 10.5 billion) of investment to our entrepreneurs.

Program overview

The program includes a series of three 4-day workshops which will provide businesses with hands-on training to refine business models, financials, sales pipelines, following Village Capital’s award winning curriculum. Next to this, the program will provide selected entrepreneurs with: 

  • 1 to 1 tailored consultation from mentors, including leading experts in various industries in Tanzania and across the globe.  

  • Market research support on supply chains management, customer relations, team-building, and investor discovery. 

  • Investment capital facilitated by the Anza Growth Fund. The graduates will also have lifetime eligibility to access funding from the Anza Growth Fund.

  • At the end of the program, 2 top-performing graduates will be selected by the other entrepreneurs. These graduates will be awarded up to $5,000 (TZS 11 million) from the program partners to go towards their development plans.

  • All graduating businesses will be introduced to our network of investors, allowing for easier access to affordable capital. 

  • As a program output, graduating companies will hold an Investment Data Room – a folder containing a strategic business plan, projections, operations governing policies, investment memo, and a partnership pitch deck.

Eligibility criteria

  • You must have a Tanzanian registered business that has been in operation for at least 3 years.

  • Your business must operate in Agriculture, Education, Healthcare, Clean Energy, Financial Inclusion and Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) sectors. 

  • You must have an annual revenue of at least 150,000,000 TZS.

  • You should have at least 3 or more full-time employees.

  • We encourage applicants that provide (technology-enabled) solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

  • We encourage women-led businesses to apply.

Commitment and program dates

Application window: until 15th February, 2023 (rolling basis)

Semi- final interview: second half of February/early March, 2023 (rolling basis)

Final interviews and initial due diligence: beginning of March 2023 (rolling basis)

Please note that applicant selection will take place on a rolling basis,
please submit your application early to be considered.

Workshop dates: TBD

Selected businesses will be required to have one of their executive team members i.e. CEO attend all three workshops in Dar Es Salaam.

Anza will cover transport costs for all entrepreneurs and provide accommodation for any entrepreneurs from outside of the Dar Es Salaam region. Additional support for child care to facilitate participation in workshops may be provided on a case-by-case basis.
