Who We Are

The Chilean Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AGCID) is a Chilean public service, created in 1990, functionally decentralized, with legal personality and its own heritage. Its role is to capture, provide and manage international cooperation resources, through the articulation of offers and demands for international cooperation, as well as the dissemination of opportunities for training and improvement of human resources abroad.

AGCID leads and articulates the National System of International Cooperation of Chile. In addition, it coordinates the cooperation that Chile delivers to countries of equal or lesser development and articulates opportunities for cooperation in favor of Chile to overcome areas defined as priorities and deficits of national development.

Today, with its new definition of Policy and Strategy 2015 -2018, the AGCID promotes cooperation for development as a pillar and an integral part of our foreign policy. These guidelines of the International Development Cooperation Policy, present for the first time explicitly, the vision and fundamentals of Chilean Development Cooperation, defining a strategy that outlines the specific objectives for the government period 2015-2018.

This formulation is based on an idea of cooperation strongly linked to the human rights-based approach, oriented to inclusive and sustainable development, which is the greatest challenge and public priority, given the deep gaps in inequality, between and within the countries of the region.

South-South

South-South Cooperation arises from shared experiences and affinities, on the basis of common objectives and solidarity, and guided, among other things, by the principles of respect, sovereignty, and national implications, free of any conditionality. Chile understands South-South Cooperation as a technical and non-financial cooperation, which is carried out through direct actions and projects, and involves focusing our efforts on passing on skills and knowledge, mainly in matters of public policy and human resources training.

A horizontal and unconditioned relationship is established, mainly with our neighboring countries, and the rest of the countries of the Latin American and Caribbean region. With each of the countries, the priorities and relevance of the cooperation issues are evaluated, taking into account the feasibility and capabilities of the Chilean executors. Also, it is also joint the execution and evaluation of the initiatives, seeking the sustainability of the results.

The AGCID develops its agenda based on the definition of its Development Cooperation Policy and its strategy, which is articulated with the demand of our partners in the South. We hold regular meetings to identify and update, as a whole, the opportunities or demands for cooperation prioritized from agreements to the Development Plans or national strategies of the counterparts, articulating them with the Thematic Areas defined in the Chilean cooperation policy.
