The urbanization factor poses a food security problem due to the increased competition for water resources between the agricultural sector and the growing population in urban centres combined with the adverse effects of climate change. Traditional farming practices are therefore insufficient to meet the increasing food demand creating a dire need for a shift in policy and agricultural practices. Our intended response to this problem is the use of vertical hydroponic farming. This method can significantly increase agricultural productivity while minimizing the environmental footprint, especially in urbanized homesteads. By utilizing urban spaces and reducing the need for arable land, vertical hydroponic farming has the potential to revolutionize food production and enhance food security. Vertical hydroponic farming has the potential to address this situation by availing food security and ensuring these categories in society are adequately involved in the food value chain within cities.
