As part of our insurance products will be a social insurance program targeted at the urban informal sector worker. The informal sector employs about 80% of Ghana’s workforce out of which about 80% are women and worth about 45.2 billion according to The Independent Ghana and yet it does not show on the government’s radar in terms of regulation and social support. The formal sector also tend to play safe by avoiding the informal sector all together.
Without support to build resilience, the informal sector worker is vulnerable to environmental and economic shocks. That is where we comes in with our social insurance program on MyCashBox. Informal sector workers will contribute micro-amounts into pooled funds to be managed by our financial partners to include banks, finance and investment and pension organisations. Under the program, insurance covers will include;
- Workman’s compensation
- Insurance cover for working capital
Under this program, informal sector workers will build financial buffers to make them resilient against all types of shocks.
