The Network Tavern is a Food Truck Business established by Thabile Chiliza, having been in the industry since 2002 and have experience in both local and international cultures and cuisines, she identified a need and lack of this kind of business as she settled back in Durban from being in Johannesburg over 10 years
Food trucks are long a trend in the US and EU and are have now also grown in popularity in South Africa. They can today be found anywhere from ordinary street corners or at dedicated food truck stops like The Hoods in Sandton, which is Johannesburg’s first food truck stop. Some food truck businesses focus on live events such as festivals, weddings and markets like LoCrate Market in Soweto; BrownSense in Johannesburg and Cape Town and Fourways Market but nothing yet in Durban.
Durban is a well-known tourist’s destination and is also rich in culture in terms of not being shy to celebrating these different cultures. Durban therefore has a lot of opportunities for this idea
